United Airlines Promo Codes & Discount Codes

United takes promo codes in a promotion box at search, and its rules add more savings: no change fee on Economy for trips from the U.S., a full refund within 24 hours on bookings made a week out, a free first bag plus cheaper awards for eligible cardmembers.

Does United Airlines have promo codes?

Yes — United takes promo and offer codes in the promotion section of its flight search, and some codes cover more than one flight. Its deals page listed no public code on October 17, 2026, so the savings in this guide come from the 24-hour refund rule, no-change-fee Economy fares, MileagePlus and United card perks.[2, 12, 13]

Our verdict

Book standard Economy rather than Basic Economy whenever your dates might move: Economy has no change fee on trips that start in the U.S., while Basic Economy can't be changed and leaves at most a partial travel credit if you cancel after the first 24 hours. A booking made directly with United at least a week before departure can be cancelled within 24 hours for a full refund, so you can lock a fare and keep comparing. If you hold a United card, pay for the ticket with it: Explorer cardmembers and one companion get the first checked bag free, and eligible primary cardmembers need at least 10% fewer miles for United award flights.

Ways to save at United Airlines

Ordered by what each is typically worth to a regular shopper — the biggest saving first.

  1. Lock a fare, then use the 24-hour window to keep shopping

Full refund if you cancel within 24 hoursLow effortAnyone booking directly, 7+ days before departure

When you book directly with United at least a week before departure, you can cancel within 24 hours for a full refund with no fee — Basic Economy and Money + Miles bookings included. If a lower fare turns up in that time, cancel the whole reservation and rebook; the refund goes back to your original payment, and card refunds are processed within 7 business days. Need longer than a day? FareLock holds the price for 3, 7 or 14 days on select flights, starting at $5.99 for three days, but that fee is nonrefundable and doesn't count toward the ticket.[2, 5, 14, 15]

    1. Book on united.com or the United app at least 7 days before the flight.
    2. Keep comparing fares for the next 24 hours.
    3. If you find better, cancel every flight on the reservation in My Trips and rebook.
  2. Choose standard Economy when your plans could change

No change fee on trips from the U.S.Low effortTravelers whose dates aren't fixed

Basic Economy can't be changed — the only route is cancelling and buying again — and after 24 hours a cancellation leaves at most a partial travel credit. Standard Economy has no change fee on trips that start in the U.S., and if the new flight is cheaper, the difference comes back as a travel credit. Already on Basic Economy? In My Trips you can add United Economy benefits from $74.50 per traveler per direction domestic ($149.50 international); every passenger on the reservation has to add them, and the charge isn't refundable.[1, 2, 14]

  3. Join MileagePlus before you book

3 miles per dollar and cheaper Wi-FiLow effortEveryone

MileagePlus is free to join and its miles never expire. On standard fares a general member earns 3 miles per dollar of the fare and carrier surcharges (government taxes don't count), though Basic Economy earns nothing for members without a United card or Premier status. Members pay $8 instead of $10 for per-flight Wi-Fi on U.S. domestic and short international flights without Starlink, and only members can connect on flights with free Starlink Wi-Fi.[8, 9, 10, 14, 16]

    1. Create a free MileagePlus account on united.com.
    2. Add your MileagePlus number to every reservation.
    3. Check it shows on your boarding pass at check-in.
  4. Use a United card for free bags and cheaper award flights

First bag free; at least 10% off awardsHigh effortPrimary United cardmembers

With the United Explorer Card, the primary cardmember and one companion on the same reservation check their first standard bag free on United-operated flights; the Quest and Club cards cover two bags, and United puts the saving at up to $200 per round trip for one free bag and up to $440 for two. Buy the ticket with the card and keep your MileagePlus number on the booking. Primary cardmembers also book United and United Express award flights for at least 10% fewer miles (at least 15% with Premier status); Gateway and Debit Rewards cardholders unlock that only after spending $10,000 on the card in a calendar year.[7, 8, 10]

  5. Active-duty military: verify your status for 5% off

5% off the base fare, plus free bagsSome effortActive-duty U.S. military

Active-duty members of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Space Force and Coast Guard who verify their status in their MileagePlus profile get 5% off the published base fare on select United-operated flights bought on united.com or the app, for up to nine passengers as long as the service member is on the itinerary. Flights must start in the U.S., Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands or Canada, and Basic Economy, special promotional fares and other discounts are excluded. U.S. military personnel also check bags free on United flights — three bags on personal travel and five on military orders.[6, 11]

United Airlines discount codes

Codes and offers kept by David Jones, who lists only codes the store makes public.

United takes promo and offer codes in the promotion section of its flight search, and the fares it then shows already include the discount. We list only codes United publishes itself on united.com; its deals page showed none on October 17, 2026.

No public code we could confirm right now

6 rules · united.com, United States

The rules that decide what you pay

What United Airlines says about cancellation, refunds for disruptions, change fees, travel credits, checked bags and promo codes — the details that turn a good deal into a bad one, or the other way round.

Cancellation

Full refund within 24 hours on bookings made a week or more ahead; after that, it depends on the fare.

Cancel in My Trips on united.com or the app; once you confirm, United shows the travel credit or refund options for your ticket. Basic Economy fares have no value once the 24-hour window has passed, apart from a possible partial travel credit if you cancel before departure. To cancel for just one traveler on a shared booking, you first have to divide the reservation.[1, 2, 3]

Refunds for disruptions

Decline United's rebooking after a significant disruption and you can get a full refund.

Significant means a cancelled flight, a delay or schedule change of 3 hours or more on a domestic flight (6 on an international one), a move to a lower class of service, or a change of airports or added stops. If you accept the rebooked flight instead, you aren't entitled to a refund. Checked-bag fees are refunded when you don't travel because of such a change, and so are paid seats or Wi-Fi you didn't receive.[5]

Change fees

None on Economy and premium tickets for trips that start in the U.S.

You can change as many times as you like but pay any fare difference each time; if the new flight is cheaper, the difference comes back as a travel credit, not cash. Basic Economy can't be changed unless you upgrade first, and international trips that don't begin in the U.S. can still carry change fees. Award tickets have no change or redeposit fees.[2]

Travel credits

Future flight credits carry a "travel by" date — one year from issue in most cases, United says.

Your trip has to begin before the date on the credit. A future flight credit can be used only by the traveler it was issued to (credits from tickets bought on or before August 31, 2021 are the exception), and it can't be combined with a travel certificate in the same purchase. To put one toward Economy Plus or other extras, apply it while booking the ticket — it can't be added afterwards.[4]

Checked bags

Fees depend on your route and when you bought the ticket; some travelers pay nothing.

For Basic Economy tickets bought on or after April 3, 2026, United's Basic Economy page lists checked-bag fees from $45 if you prepay and $75 at the gate. Premier members (plus up to nine others on the same itinerary), eligible United cardmembers, U.S. military personnel and travelers in United Business, United First or Polaris seats get free bags on United-operated flights. When the first flight on a ticket is with a partner airline, that airline sets the bag fees.[1, 6, 7]

Promo codes

Entered in the promotion section when you search for flights.

Fares then show with the discount already applied, and some codes cover more than one flight. Special-offer fares from United's deals page are nonrefundable once 24 hours have passed since purchase, and travel certificates can't be used toward MileagePlus awards.[4, 12, 13]

5 catches in the fine print

Watch out for

Where shoppers lose the saving they thought they had.

  1. A Basic Economy bag that won't fit under the seat costs $75 at the gate

On routes where Basic Economy includes only a personal item, a carry-on brought to the gate that doesn't fit under the seat is checked for $75 on tickets bought on or after April 3, 2026, and there is no free gate check. Premier members, Star Alliance Gold members and primary holders of qualifying United cards (not the Gateway or Select cards) who booked with the card can bring one carry-on.[1]

  2. The 24-hour refund has fine print

It applies only when you book at least a week before departure, you must cancel every flight for every passenger on the reservation, and tickets bought with e-certificates are excluded. A FareLock fee paid to hold the fare is not refunded.[2, 15]

  3. Accepting a rebooked flight ends your refund right

After a cancellation or major delay, taking the alternative flight United offers means you are no longer entitled to a refund. If you would rather not travel, decline the rebooking and request your money back to the original payment.[5]

  4. The cardmember bag perk depends on how you paid

Buy the ticket with your United card (new cardmembers get a 90-day grace period) and make sure your MileagePlus number is on the reservation. Codeshare flights and unpublished fares bought through sites such as Priceline or Hotwire don't qualify, and Premier members get no extra bags from the card.[7]

  5. Booking through an agent costs extra

Booking online is free, but ticketing with a United agent costs $25 by phone within the U.S. and Canada, and changing a flight over the phone can also carry a fee.[3, 14]

United Airlines savings FAQ

Yes — United takes promo and offer codes in the promotion section of its flight search, and some codes cover more than one flight. Its deals page listed no public code on October 17, 2026, so the savings in this guide come from the 24-hour refund rule, no-change-fee Economy fares, MileagePlus and United card perks.[2, 12, 13]

Enter it in the promotion section while you fill in your trip details; the fares you see then already include the discount, and you check out as usual. You can also enter the code on United's Special promos page to see its balance and how it can be used.[13]

Yes. Active-duty U.S. service members who verify their status in their MileagePlus profile get 5% off the base fare on select United-operated flights bought on united.com or the app, for up to nine people on the same itinerary. Basic Economy and special promotional fares don't qualify.[11]

Yes, if you booked directly with United at least one week before departure: cancel within 24 hours of booking and the fare goes back to your original payment with no fee, Basic Economy included. You must cancel all flights for all passengers on the reservation.[2, 5]

Not on Economy, Economy Plus or premium-cabin tickets for domestic flights, flights between the U.S. and Mexico or the Caribbean, and international trips that start in the U.S. — you pay only any fare difference. Basic Economy can't be changed unless you upgrade first, and same-day switches can cost up to $75 per traveler depending on Premier status.[2, 14]

Primary United cardmembers get one (Explorer) or two (Quest, Club) free standard bags for themselves and one companion when the ticket is bought with the card. Premier members check bags free for themselves and up to nine others on the same itinerary, U.S. military personnel get three on personal trips, and United Business, United First and Polaris seats include free checked bags.[6, 7]

Yes, if the disruption is significant — a cancellation, a delay or schedule change of 3 hours or more on a domestic flight (6 on an international one), a downgrade, or a change of airports or stops — and you choose not to travel; the refund goes to your original payment. If you accept the alternative flight United offers, you aren't entitled to a refund.[5]

United says most travel credits expire one year after they were issued, and the date is shown on the credit. For a future flight credit it is a "travel by" date, so the trip must begin before it; for a travel certificate it is a "book by" date.[4]

No — United says MileagePlus miles never expire, and the program is free to join. General members earn 3 miles per dollar on standard fares, but nothing on Basic Economy unless they hold a United card or Premier status.[8, 9, 16]
