Uber Promo Codes, Uber One & Cheaper Rides

Uber's US promo page shows a public first-ride code: 30% off, up to $8. After that, the ride type sets the price — UberX Share, Route Share and Wait & Save undercut UberX — with Uber One ride credits and monthly Amex Uber Cash on top.

Does Uber have promo codes?

Yes. On October 18, 2026, Uber's US promo page showed RIDEUBER2026FT, worth 30% off a first ride up to $8. Uber's help centre says most other promotions are unique to each rider's profile and sit in Wallet with their expiry dates, and Uber's referral rules bar posting personal invite codes on coupon sites, so we don't list those.[1, 4, 25]

Our verdict

New riders can take 30% off the first trip, up to $8, with RIDEUBER2026FT from Uber's US promo page. After that, check UberX Share, Wait & Save and, in seven cities, Route Share — which Uber puts at up to 50% below UberX on weekday commute corridors — before settling on UberX. Frequent riders can add Uber One ($9.99 a month) for ride credits and Automatic Surge Savings, but a Reserve booking may come out pricier than riding on demand.

Ways to save at Uber

Ordered by what each is typically worth to a regular shopper — the biggest saving first.

  1. Add Uber's first-ride code before your first trip

30% off, up to $8Low effortNew Uber riders in the US

Uber's US promo page shows the code RIDEUBER2026FT for 30% off your first trip, with savings capped at $8. It covers one trip in the US on a personal profile, doesn't apply to surcharges, government fees, tolls or tips, and can't be combined with other promotions or savings. The promo page says the promotion expires 14 days after it's activated, while the same offer on Uber's US ride page says 14 days after signup — so plan that first ride soon after adding it.[1, 2, 3, 4]

    1. Tap the profile icon, choose Wallet, then Add Promo Code.
    2. Enter RIDEUBER2026FT and tap Add before you request a ride.
    3. Look for the strikethrough price on the ride screen to see that it applies.
  2. Pick UberX Share or Route Share over UberX

Up to 50% off UberX with Route ShareLow effortSolo riders without much luggage

UberX Share puts you in the car with co-riders heading your way for a lower price than UberX; Uber says it's designed to add 8 minutes on average, may mean a short walk to pickup and after dropoff, and gives each rider one seat with no added stops or destination changes. Route Share runs pickups every 10 minutes along busy corridors during weekday commute hours and saves up to 50% compared with UberX — Uber bases that on average historical UberX prices and doesn't guarantee it — in New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Boston and Baltimore. Scheduled Share books a door-to-door shared ride up to 30 days ahead, and Uber says locking in the price that way saves even more than standard Share.[10]

  3. Choose Wait & Save when UberX is surging

A lower fare for a longer waitLow effortRiders who aren't in a hurry

Uber's help centre describes Wait & Save as a way to pay less for an UberX ride during surge in return for a longer wait: the option appears when UberX is surging above a certain level, the discount grows with the surge, and once the maximum wait is reached your request goes to drivers whatever the surge. On Uber's O'Hare page on October 18, 2026, the past month's average from Near North Side was $56 for Wait & Save against $64 for UberX — averages that Uber says aren't fixed or guaranteed prices.[14, 15]

  4. Join Uber One if you ride often

Ride credits and Surge SavingsLow effortFrequent riders; students pay $4.99

Uber One costs $9.99 a month on Uber's US page, or $96 a year according to its US fee guide, and eligible first-time members get a 4-week free trial. On rides marked with the Uber One icon, the US page lists 5% back as Uber One credits plus Automatic Surge Savings when rider demand is higher than usual; credits are worked out on the final fare without taxes, tolls, surcharges or fees, and expire 60 days after they land in your wallet. Counting ride credits alone, 5% back matches the monthly fee at about $200 of eligible fares a month. Students 18+ pay $4.99 a month after 4 free weeks, and a member on a paid monthly or annual plan (student plans and trials excluded) can share core benefits, Uber One credits included, with one adult in the same household where family sharing is offered.[5, 6, 7, 8]

  5. Pay with an Amex card that adds Uber Cash

$15 or $10 in Uber Cash a monthLow effortEligible US Amex Platinum and Gold Card Members

Uber's US Amex page says eligible Platinum Card Members get $15 in Uber Cash each month plus a $20 bonus in December — up to $200 a year — and Gold Card Members $10 a month, up to $120 a year, for rides and orders in the US. It only works with Uber Cash toggled on and an Amex card selected for the ride, cards added through Apple Pay or PayPal don't qualify, and the balance expires at the end of each month. U.S. Consumer Platinum Card Members can also get up to $120 a calendar year in Amex statement credits for an Uber One membership charged to the card.[16]

    1. Add the eligible Amex card in your Uber account; the Uber Cash can take up to 48 hours to appear.
    2. Before requesting, check that Uber Cash is toggled on above the confirmation button.
    3. Select the Amex card as the payment method, then request the ride.
  6. Split a group ride with friends

About 30% per rider, on Uber's averageSome effortUp to 4 riders, where group rides are offered

Set up a group ride in the app and invite up to 3 friends; each adds a pickup or dropoff spot, and once the trip has started you can split the price equally, for a small fee per rider. Uber says each rider could save 30% on average — comparing a group ride split between 2 riders with an UberX ride each — but savings aren't guaranteed, and the feature is offered to a limited number of users in certain cities.[24]

6 rules · uber.com, United States

The rules that decide what you pay

What Uber says about ride cancellation, wait time, Uber Reserve cancellation, refunds, promo codes and Uber One cancellation — the details that turn a good deal into a bad one, or the other way round.

Ride cancellation

A fee can apply once you're matched with a driver.

To cancel after matching, tap the bar showing your driver's details, then Cancel trip, and confirm. Uber's US rider support page says you're charged a fee if you cancel 2 minutes after making a request, and on UberX Share the driver waits only 2 minutes at pickup before being able to cancel and collect a cancellation fee. If you think a fee was charged by mistake — say the driver cancelled instead of ending the trip, or was too far from your pickup — Uber asks you to report it.[10, 20, 21]

Wait time

A per-minute fee can start a few minutes after the driver arrives.

Uber says wait-time fees and when they start vary by location: tap the "i" on the ride option screen before requesting to see the rate, and a trip that ends in a cancellation fee isn't charged for wait time as well. For on-demand airport pickups, Uber's US airports page gives UberX, Uber Comfort and UberXL riders 2 minutes from the driver's arrival (5 minutes for Uber Black, Black SUV, Premier and Premier SUV), and riders with a disability can request a wait-time fee waiver.[13, 22]

Uber Reserve cancellation

Reserve cancellation fees are typically higher than on-demand ones.

Uber's Reserve terms say the fees and wait times vary by ride type and location, as set out in the in-app Reserve Cancellation Policy, and if Uber warns that your driver will be significantly late on a non-airport trip, you get 10 minutes from that notice to cancel at no charge. For airport rides, Uber's US airports page says you can cancel a reservation free up to one hour before the scheduled pickup, and its O'Hare page adds that it's also free while no driver has accepted.[11, 12, 13, 14]

Refunds

Report a problem within 30 days; approved refunds take 3–5 business days.

Uber's US Rider Refund Policy lists cases that may bring a full or partial refund: a fare or fee charged in error, an eligible promotion that didn't apply, a price far above the pre-booking estimate that wasn't caused by added stops or a new destination, and a trip that didn't end within reasonable walking distance of your destination. Vehicle or driver quality, requesting the wrong ride type, and traffic delays don't qualify, and Uber's US terms treat charges as final unless Uber and the provider who charged them decide otherwise.[18, 19]

Promo codes

One code per trip, added before you request.

A promotion shows up in the price before you request — look for the strikethrough — and as a Promotions line on the receipt. When several are valid, Uber applies the one with the highest savings automatically, so add a code you're keeping for a particular trip right before you take it; value a promo doesn't use won't roll over. Uber's Reserve terms add that certain promotions can't be used on Reserve trips, and that promotions don't apply to Local Cab or Uber Taxi.[3, 4, 12]

Uber One cancellation

End it in the app any time; the current billing cycle isn't refunded.

Open Uber One, tap Manage Membership, then End Membership. Benefits continue to the end of the billing cycle, but a free trial's benefits stop the moment you cancel, and if the renewal payment already went through within the 24 hours before renewal day, Uber refunds it automatically. Uber One credits you've earned can't be used without an active membership and expire at the end of the cycle in which you cancel.[5, 6]

    Uber One Member Days

Uber's 2026 edition, announced on May 15, ran for 10 days with member ride offers on set dates: 30% off evening rides on May 15–16, half off UberX Share trips on May 21 and 20% off airport trips other than UberX on May 23–24, each with a per-trip cap. No date for the next edition was on Uber's US newsroom on October 18, 2026.[27]

5 catches in the fine print

Watch out for

Where shoppers lose the saving they thought they had.

  1. Booking ahead can cost more

Uber's Reserve page promises a locked-in price with no surges, but its Reserve terms say Reserve prices may be higher than on-demand prices for the same trip, because a premium for the driver's extra waiting and travel to you is built into the estimate. When you have time, compare the Reserve price with an on-demand request.[11, 12]

  2. Uber Cash can't pay for scheduled rides

Uber's US Uber Cash terms rule out using Uber Cash, gift card balances included, for scheduled rides or with family profiles. Uber Cash is also set as your default payment method, so pick another one in Payment before any ride you don't want it spent on.[17]

  3. Amex Uber Cash doesn't roll over

The monthly Amex balance expires at 11:59 PM Hawaii time on the last day of each month. It only applies when Uber Cash is toggled on and an Amex card is the selected payment, and any promotion on the trip is used before it.[16]

  4. In California, the upfront price is an estimate

Uber's US upfront pricing page says that in California, ride options other than Uber Pool show an estimate, and the final price comes from the trip's actual time and distance plus taxes, fees, tolls and surcharges. Elsewhere the upfront price can still change if you add stops, change the destination, the route or duration changes significantly, or you pass a toll it didn't include.[11, 23]

  5. A mess can cost up to $225

Uber's cleaning fee policy for drivers sets a $225 maximum, with typical fees of $30–$60 for a minor mess, $55–$85 for a moderate one and $80–$225 for a severe one. Uber's US terms say repair and cleaning fees passed on to drivers are non-refundable.[19, 26]

Uber savings FAQ

Tap the profile icon, choose Wallet, then Add Promo Code, enter the code and tap Add — before you request the ride, because a promo can't be applied afterwards. The Promotions section of Wallet lists your active promos with their expiry dates, and the ride screen shows a strikethrough price when one applies.[3, 4]

No. You can hold several in your account, but only one applies per trip: Uber picks the one with the highest discount, comparing the maximum discount for percentage-off promos. Uber's help centre adds that you can apply at most one new-user code before your first trip.[3, 4]

Yes, through Uber One for Students: 4 weeks free on Uber's US student page, then $4.99 a month, and Uber's student help article also lists $48 a year. You must be 18 or older, confirm your enrollment through SheerID and re-verify every year. The US student page lists 5% back on rides in Uber One credits, while the student help article says 6%.[6, 8, 9]

It depends on how much you ride. Uber's US page lists 5% back on rides in Uber One credits, so the credits alone match the $9.99 monthly fee at about $200 of eligible fares a month, with Automatic Surge Savings and the Uber Eats benefits on top. Credits are figured on the final fare without taxes, tolls, surcharges or fees, and expire 60 days after they're added.[5, 6]

Uber's US pages don't give a single dollar amount. Its US rider support page says a fee applies if you cancel 2 minutes after making a request, and its help centre says the fee pays the driver for the time and effort spent getting to you. Reserve trips follow their own in-app policy, with fees Uber says are typically higher.[12, 20, 21]

Report the problem in the app or at help.uber.com within 30 days. Uber's US Rider Refund Policy says fares charged in error, promotions that didn't apply and prices well above the estimate (not caused by extra stops or a new destination) may be refunded, and approved refunds go back to your original payment method in 3–5 business days.[18]

Not necessarily. Uber's Reserve page says reserving locks in your price without surges, but its Reserve terms say Reserve prices may be higher than on-demand prices for the same trip, and cancellation fees are typically higher too. Uber's Share page does say Scheduled Share, booked up to 30 days ahead, saves more than standard Share.[10, 11, 12]

Yes. A gift card's value is loaded as Uber Cash, never expires and carries no fees, and it works in US cities where Uber operates. It can't pay for scheduled rides or trips on a family profile, and it can't be refunded or exchanged for cash unless the law requires it.[17]
