1. Let Hotwire pick the hotel with a Hot Rate

   You set the dates, area, star rating and amenities; Hotwire chooses the hotel and shows its name and exact address straight after you pay. It advertises savings of up to 60% on the published retail rate, based on actual Hot Rate bookings compared with the lowest published rates on leading retail travel sites — the top of its range, and not promised for any given search. Some Hot Rate deals list three named hotels (two in the app), one of which you're guaranteed to get; others give clues under "What hotel will I get?".^{[1, 3, 19]}

   1. Search hotels and look for rates labelled "Hot Rate"; unlabelled rates are standard rates.
   2. Check the star rating, customer rating, area map and the "What hotel will I get?" hints.
   3. Book only dates you're sure of: every Hot Rate booking is final.

2. Book Hot Rates in the Hotwire app

   Hotwire's help center says every Hot Rate costs less when booked in the app, and its app page makes the same promise for last-minute Hot Rate hotels and cars. Hotwire's own advice is to book Hot Rate hotels at the last minute, even on the day you arrive, as long as the booking is done before midnight local time at your destination. The app page also footnotes a limited-time offer for first-time app customers on Hot Rate hotels, but on October 17, 2026 it named no amount or end date.^{[1, 7, 26]}

3. Bundle your flight and hotel

   Hotwire's packages page says booking flight and hotel together saves an average of $294, measured across flight + hotel packages booked on Hotwire and its affiliated brands against the same parts bought separately. It adds that savings vary by route, trip length, dates and suppliers, and that not every package has them. Under Hotwire's rules, package bookings are final and can't be changed, and each flight, hotel or car inside follows its own restrictions.^{[3, 8]}

4. Hold a standard-rate car you can cancel for free

   With a standard car booking you see the rental company and an estimated price before you book, Hotwire doesn't charge your card, and the agency bills you when you return the car. Hotwire's rules let you cancel these reservations at any time without penalty, so if you spot a lower rate later you can cancel and book again. Where possible, Hotwire passes on rental-agency coupons for these bookings, but it can't promise the agency will accept them.^{[2, 3, 6]}

   1. Pick a car whose rental company is shown before booking, not a Hot Rate.
   2. Keep comparing prices for your dates before the trip.
   3. To switch, use the Cancel reservation button in My Account, then book the new rate.

5. Take a Hot Rate car for a fixed airport pickup

   Hot Rate cars are airport-only and prepaid, and the rental company appears right after you pay: one of ACE, Advantage, Alamo, Dollar, Enterprise, Europcar (international only), Hertz, National, NU, Sixt or Thrifty. Hotwire says these bookings usually reflect its lowest car rates and that the price shown includes taxes and fees, though certain international rentals carry mandatory tax and insurance that you pay to the rental company directly. Every driver must be at least 25 and bring a credit card in their own name with at least $200 available; prepaid cards aren't accepted.^{[2, 3, 9]}

6. Get Hotwire's emails and price alerts

   Hotwire says email subscribers are the first to hear when it releases additional discounts on Hot Rate hotels; the sign-up is on its homepage. Registered users can also get personalized Hot Rate price alerts, notices when prices drop on trips they're considering, and Big Deals, a weekly round-up of Hotwire's top hotel and car rental deals in major US locations.^{[1, 15]}

Hotwire showed no public promo code on hotwire.com on October 17, 2026; it says extra Hot Rate hotel discounts reach its email subscribers first. We list a Hotwire code here only when Hotwire publishes it on its own site, with its end date.

1. Don't count on the Low Price Guarantee

   Hotwire's help articles still describe a 24-hour Low Price Guarantee and disagree on what it covers: one lists retail-rate hotels and Hot Rate cars, another includes Hot Rate hotels. The terms page those articles link to says the guarantee "is not available at this time", so ask Hotwire before relying on it.^{[10, 11, 12]}

2. An expired healthcare offer is still online

   Hotwire's ID.me page for medical workers and first responders still advertises an extra 10% off Hot Rate hotels and cars, but the terms on the same page say the coupon had to be redeemed by September 30, 2021.^[16]

3. Sample car prices aren't quotes

   The car rental rates Hotwire shows in its emails and on its site are examples of what other customers booked recently. They change with your search and aren't guaranteed prices.^[25]

4. Extra rental days cost the agency's rate

   Hotwire guarantees its car rate only for the length you booked. Extensions are arranged with the rental agency, whose rate for extra days may be significantly higher than Hotwire's.^[24]

5. Skipping the first night can cost the stay

   If you won't make the first night of a prepaid hotel booking but still plan to stay the rest, Hotwire's terms say you must confirm the change with Hotwire no later than the date of that first night, or the reservation can be cancelled.^[4]
