Delta Air Lines Promo Codes & Fee Savings

On Delta the savings sit in the rules: Delta Amex cardmembers and Medallion members skip the $45 domestic first-bag fee, Classic fares from the US change with no fee while Basic ones don't, and tickets bought direct come with a risk-free cancellation window.

Does Delta have promo codes?

Delta's flight discounts come as eCerts — a dollar amount or percentage off a fare, or a percentage off the miles for an award — entered under Redeem a Certificate before you search. Delta Vacations periodically offers promo codes for SkyMiles and Medallion members, typed into the Promo Code/eCertificate box; on October 17, 2026 its deals page showed hotel offers and a military discount but no public code.[7, 15, 16]

Our verdict

Put your SkyMiles number on every booking: with a Delta SkyMiles Gold, Platinum or Reserve Amex it waives the $45 first-bag fee for up to nine people on the reservation, and the $55 second-bag fee on domestic flights for the cardmember. If your dates could move, pay for Classic instead of Basic — Classic tickets from the US change with no fee, while a Delta Main Basic ticket from the US loses $99 or $199 when cancelled and earns no miles. Book on delta.com or the Fly Delta app so the 24-hour Risk-Free Cancellation lets you back out for a full refund.

Ways to save at Delta Air Lines

Ordered by what each is typically worth to a regular shopper — the biggest saving first.

  1. Add the SkyMiles number that unlocks free bags

$45–$55 off per bag, each wayLow effortDelta Gold, Platinum or Reserve Amex cardmembers, Medallion members, active-duty military

Domestic Delta Main and Delta Comfort tickets cost $45 for the first checked bag and $55 for the second, each way. Basic Card Members with the Delta SkyMiles Gold, Platinum or Reserve American Express Card (or the Business versions) get the first bag free for passengers on the same reservation, up to nine waivers, plus a free second bag on domestic Delta-operated flights for each Basic Card Member flying; Medallion members also check their first bag free. Active-duty U.S. military get two free bags on personal trips in Delta Main or Delta Comfort, Basic fares included.[1, 2, 3]

    1. Add the cardmember's SkyMiles number when you book, or later with "Add Loyalty Program #" in the trip.
    2. Check in on delta.com, in the Fly Delta app or at a kiosk — eligible bag fees are waived automatically.
    3. Keep each bag under 50 lbs and 62 linear inches: overweight and oversize charges aren't waived.
  2. Choose Classic over Basic if your plans might shift

No change fee on trips from the USLow effortAnyone whose dates aren't fixed

Classic and Extra tickets that start in the US or Canada have no change fee — you pay only any fare difference — and a cancelled Classic ticket becomes an eCredit with nothing deducted. For a Delta Main Basic or Delta Comfort Basic ticket from the US, Delta's fee table lists $99 to change or cancel on trips within the US, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America and $199 on routes to South America, Europe and beyond. Main Basic also earns no miles and gets its seat only after check-in, so weigh the price gap between the two against that fee.[1, 4, 8, 9]

  3. Book direct so Risk-Free Cancellation covers you

Full refund, prepaid fees includedLow effortTickets bought from Delta for travel starting in the US

eTickets for travel from the US bought on delta.com, in the Fly Delta app, through Delta Reservation Sales or at a Delta counter can be cancelled for any reason under 24-hour Risk-Free Cancellation, with a full refund to the original payment and no fee. Delta's terms set the deadline at midnight of the day after purchase, or midnight of the first flight's departure date if that is sooner. Travel-agency tickets are excluded, and award tickets are cancelled by calling Delta Reservations.[4, 5]

    1. Open the trip in My Trips and select "Need to Cancel?".
    2. Choose "Start Flight Cancellation" and follow the steps.
    3. Watch your card: Delta says card refunds are typically processed within 7 business days.
  4. Move a Classic ticket to a flight that now costs less

The fare difference as an eCreditSome effortClassic, Extra and refundable tickets from the US

With no change fee on Classic tickets from the US, switching to a cheaper flight can leave value over: Delta says that when the new flight costs less, it may issue the fare difference as an eCredit, minus any change fee. That eCredit pays for future Delta tickets — up to five eCredits per ticket on a new purchase, two on a change — but not checked bags, and it can't be combined with mileage redemptions such as Award Travel or Miles + Cash.[1, 6, 7]

  5. Join SkyMiles and spend miles where Delta discounts them

Up to 5,000 bonus miles; 15% off awardsLow effortEveryone; TakeOff 15 and Pay with Miles are for Delta Amex cardmembers

SkyMiles is free to join and its miles don't expire. 6. Price a Delta Vacations package before booking flight and hotel apart

$150–$300 instant savings at listed resortsSome effortFlight-plus-hotel trips

Delta Vacations sells packages on delta.com, and its deals page lists hotel-by-hotel offers with booking deadlines — on October 17, 2026, its Top Instant Savings section showed $150 to $300 off per room at the resorts listed, for bookings made by October 31, 2026, each with a minimum stay. Delta Vacations also runs promo codes for SkyMiles and Medallion members from time to time, typed into the Promo Code/eCertificate box at booking, and miles can pay for some or all of a package.[12, 15, 16]

6 rules · delta.com, United States

The rules that decide what you pay

What Delta Air Lines says about Risk-Free Cancellation, cancellation, refunds for cancelled or changed flights, change fees, eCredits and checked bags — the details that turn a good deal into a bad one, or the other way round.

Risk-Free Cancellation

Full refund on tickets bought from Delta for travel from the US.

Delta's change-and-cancel overview describes the window as one day from purchase; the terms on its cancellation page set the deadline at midnight of the day after you buy, or midnight of your first flight's departure date if sooner, and always before travel begins. It covers eTickets from delta.com, Reservation Sales and Delta ticket counters — not travel-agency or paper tickets — and refunds go back to the original payment.[4, 5]

Cancellation

Non-refundable tickets turn into an eCredit; Extra and refundable tickets get money back.

Classic and Basic tickets are non-refundable: cancel before departure and the remaining value comes back as an eCredit, after any charge — none for Classic from the US, $99 to $500 for Basic depending on route and cabin. Extra and refundable tickets are refunded to the original form of payment. A ticket that isn't changed or cancelled before departure keeps no value at all.[4, 5]

Refunds for cancelled or changed flights

Money back if Delta cancels your flight or moves it by 3+ hours (6+ on international trips).

When Delta cancels a flight or it is significantly delayed or changed, it tries to rebook you; if the new flight doesn't suit you, you can cancel for a refund of the unflown part plus prepaid seat and checked-bag fees, or take an eCredit valid for five years. If Delta can't rebook you and you take no action within 24 hours, the refund goes back to your original payment automatically.[5, 7, 17]

Change fees

None on Classic or Extra tickets that start in the US or Canada.

You still pay any fare difference. For Basic tickets from the US, Delta's fee table lists $99 to change within the US, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America and $199 on longer routes in Delta Main or Delta Comfort, $300 in Delta First Basic, $400 in Delta Premium Select Basic and $500 in Basic Business. Same-Day Confirmed starts at $75 on Classic tickets where available, and Basic fares can't use Same-Day Confirmed or Same-Day Standby.[1, 4, 6]

eCredits

One year after a voluntary cancellation, five years after a Delta disruption.

A voluntary-cancellation eCredit is valid for one year from the original ticket date, and for domestic trips the new travel has to be completed within that year. eCredits pay for Delta tickets and government taxes and fees — not checked bags — with up to five per ticket on a new booking and two on a change, and they can't be mixed with Award Travel or Miles + Cash.[5, 7]

Checked bags

$45 for the first bag and $55 for the second on domestic flights.

Those fees apply each way to Delta Main and Delta Comfort tickets without a card, Medallion or military exception, for bags up to 50 lbs and 62 linear inches; one carry-on and one personal item are free. At most domestic airports SkyMiles members can pay standard bag fees with miles at check-in, though not excess or overweight charges, and trips to or from Key West are limited to one checked bag.[1]

5 catches in the fine print

Watch out for

Where shoppers lose the saving they thought they had.

  1. Skipping a flight wipes out the ticket

Except where the law requires otherwise, a ticket that isn't changed or cancelled before departure has no remaining value, and Delta can cancel every later flight on the itinerary. Cancel in My Trips first, even if you have no plans for the eCredit yet.[5, 17]

  2. You can't buy your way out of Basic later

A ticket's Travel Experience is fixed at purchase: you can move to another cabin within it, but not from Basic to Classic or Extra. Delta's pages also disagree on Basic changes — its fee table lists $99 or $199, while an FAQ on its cancellation page says Main Basic can't be changed after the risk-free window — so check what My Trips offers before you count on a change.[1, 4, 5, 8]

  3. Hidden-city and throwaway tickets break the rules

Delta's contract of carriage bans buying a fare to a point beyond where you actually get off, using round-trip fares for one-way travel, and back-to-back ticketing. If it finds one, Delta can cancel the unused flights, void their value or charge the full fare.[17]

  4. Pay with Miles doesn't hand miles back

Apart from cancellations under the 24-hour Risk-Free Cancellation, miles redeemed through Pay with Miles aren't redeposited — even on refundable fares — and leftover value from a changed or cancelled ticket comes back as an e-certificate.[12]

  5. Tickets bought elsewhere cost more to change

Tickets not issued by Delta — from a travel agency, an online agency or another airline — can carry third-party charges, and Delta adds a $50 handling charge when you change one through Reservation Sales or a ticket office (it's waived in My Trips). Travel-agency tickets are also outside the 24-hour Risk-Free Cancellation.[5, 6]

Delta Air Lines savings FAQ

Delta's flight discounts come as eCerts — a dollar amount or percentage off a fare, or a percentage off the miles for an award — entered under Redeem a Certificate before you search. Delta Vacations periodically offers promo codes for SkyMiles and Medallion members, typed into the Promo Code/eCertificate box; on October 17, 2026 its deals page showed hotel offers and a military discount but no public code.[7, 15, 16]

Active-duty U.S. military get extra free checked bags: two on personal trips in Delta Main or Delta Comfort, three in premium cabins and five when flying on orders. Delta's military page says to message or call Delta to book, and Delta Vacations takes $25 to $200 off flight-and-hotel packages bought through January 1, 2027, for active-duty personnel.[3, 15, 18]

Hold a Delta SkyMiles Gold, Platinum or Reserve American Express Card (or a Business version) and put your SkyMiles number on the reservation: the first bag is free for passengers on that booking, up to nine waivers, and each Basic Card Member flying also gets a free second bag on domestic Delta flights. Medallion members check their first bag free, and active-duty military get two or more.[1, 2, 3]

Tickets bought directly from Delta for travel from the US can be cancelled for any reason for a full refund, prepaid fees included, under 24-hour Risk-Free Cancellation. Delta's terms put the deadline at midnight of the day after purchase, or midnight of the first flight's departure date if that comes first; travel-agency tickets don't qualify.[4, 5]

Yes, but after the risk-free window you won't get cash back: Delta deducts a cancellation charge — $99 to $500 depending on route and cabin — and returns the rest as an eCredit. Delta Main Basic also earns no miles and gets its seat assigned after check-in.[1, 4, 9]

An eCredit from a voluntary cancellation is valid for one year from the original ticket date. If Delta cancelled or significantly changed your flight and you chose an eCredit over a refund, it lasts five years from the day it was issued.[7]

No — Delta says SkyMiles miles don't expire, and membership is free. General members earn 5 miles per dollar on Classic and refundable tickets and 7 on Extra, counted on base fare and carrier surcharges; Delta Main Basic earns nothing.[10, 11]

It's a Delta SkyMiles Gold, Platinum and Reserve American Express Card benefit (Business versions included): 15% off the miles for Award Travel on Delta-operated flights. It doesn't apply to partner-operated flights or to taxes and fees.[10, 19]

Delta's own fare tips say fares are usually lower on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and highest on Fridays and Sundays, and that a round trip is usually priced below two one-way tickets. Its Current Flight Deals page shows Delta Main round-trip fares from the origin you pick, in money or miles.[9, 14]
