Coursera Promo Codes & Coursera Plus Discounts

Coursera lets you preview most courses free, offers financial aid one course at a time, and lists six US states whose residents can get free access. Coursera Plus showed $59 a month or $399 a year on its US page captured October 9, 2026.

Does Coursera have promo codes?

Coursera's terms say it occasionally runs special discounts or promotional offers, with eligibility at its discretion and the limits stated when the offer is shown. On October 17, 2026, its Google Career Certificates page offered 3 free months of Google's paid Gemini plan on Google One for enrolling in a Google certificate, redeemable until December 31, 2026. Its referral program, which gave a first month of Coursera Plus for $1, was discontinued on October 25, 2024.[13, 15, 16]

Our verdict

Preview a course free before paying — Coursera opens the first module of most courses at no cost — and if the fee is what stops you, apply for financial aid with a 150-word application. On the US Coursera Plus page captured October 9, 2026, the plan cost $59 a month or $399 a year, so paying yearly comes out cheaper once you'd stay seven months or longer. The yearly plan can be refunded within 14 days of payment; monthly billing isn't refunded once the 7-day trial is over.

Ways to save at Coursera

Ordered by what each is typically worth to a regular shopper — the biggest saving first.

  1. Preview a course before you pay for it

Free first module, or a full course without a certificateLow effortAnyone deciding whether a course is worth paying for

Coursera says Preview is available for most courses: it opens the whole first module, graded assessments included, and locks the modules after it. Select courses offer Full Course, No Certificate, which unlocks every lesson and graded assessment but awards no certificate. Previewing a course that belongs to a Specialization or Professional Certificate opens all its materials except graded assessments, and Coursera's help center counts over 2,800 free courses, which may not come with certificates.[9, 10, 12]

    1. Open the course description page and click Enroll, Start for free or Enroll for free.
    2. Pick the Preview this course link under the main button, or Full Course, No Certificate where it's offered.
    3. Upgrade to the paid version later only if you want the certificate.
  2. Pay yearly for Coursera Plus if you'll keep learning

$399 a year instead of $59 a monthLow effortLearners planning several courses

On the US Coursera Plus page captured October 9, 2026, monthly billing cost $59 and yearly billing $399, which Coursera labelled Save 40%. Seven monthly payments at that rate add up to $413, so the yearly plan is the cheaper choice from the seventh month on. Coursera Plus covers 10,000+ courses, Guided Projects, Specializations and Professional Certificates — over 90% of the catalog — but Degree program courses and certain Professional Certificates may be left out.[1, 2, 7]

    1. Look for the Coursera Plus badge on the courses you want, to check they're included.
    2. Choose the yearly option on the Coursera Plus page; it carries a 14-day money-back guarantee.
    3. Already paying monthly? Cancel, let the paid month run out, then restart on yearly billing.
  3. Apply for financial aid on the course you need

A discount off that course's priceSome effortLearners who can't afford the certificate fee

Coursera says most courses offer financial aid. You describe your education, career goals and finances in an application of at least 150 words, and the review can take up to 16 days; the size of the discount may depend on your application and where you live. An approval covers that one course for 180 days, and Specializations aren't covered as a whole, so you apply course by course.[10, 11, 12]

    1. Before enrolling, find Financial aid available under More questions? on the course description page.
    2. Click Learn more, then Continue to application, and write at least 150 words.
    3. Don't start a free trial while you wait: it cancels the application.
  4. Check whether your state offers Coursera free

Free catalog access for residents of six statesSome effortResidents of California, Louisiana, Missouri, Nevada, New York or Tennessee

Coursera's help center lists US state partnerships that give residents free access to the Coursera catalog, which it puts at 7,000+ courses and 4,000+ projects. The sponsors are the California State Library (a library card is needed), the Louisiana Workforce Commission, Missouri Job Center, Nevada's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, the New York State Department of Labor and Tennessee's Department of Labor and Workforce (through Jobs4TN). Every one except California asks you to register with the sponsoring agency first, and separate terms may apply.[12]

  5. Test a subscription with the free trial, then decide

7 days free on most monthly plansLow effortNew subscribers to Coursera Plus or a Specialization

Coursera says most monthly subscriptions start with a free trial: 7 days, including monthly Coursera Plus, or 1 day on some shorter Specializations. Cancel before it ends and you aren't charged, and you keep access until the trial runs out; you get one free trial per subscription. Start it in a web browser — the Coursera app can't start free trials — and expect a $0 or $1 card authorization that disappears within 5–7 business days.[3, 6]

  6. Ask your employer to reimburse Coursera Plus

Your learning budget pays instead of youSome effortEmployees with an education benefit

Coursera's Coursera Plus page says you can be reimbursed if your employer's education benefit covers online learning programs. Coursera emails a Coursera Plus receipt you can submit, so check your employer's rules before you pay.[1]

6 rules · coursera.org, United States

The rules that decide what you pay

What Coursera says about cancellation, Coursera Plus refunds, single courses and Specializations, free trials, subscriptions that end themselves and app purchases — the details that turn a good deal into a bad one, or the other way round.

Cancellation

Cancel any time; access lasts until the paid period ends.

On Coursera.org, open Purchases, find the plan under the Subscriptions tab and click Cancel subscription; web subscriptions can also be cancelled in the Coursera app. Cancelling stops future payments but doesn't refund past ones, and when the paid period ends your courses switch to preview mode with your progress and grades kept. Subscriptions can't be paused.[5]

Coursera Plus refunds

Yearly plan: full refund within 14 days. Monthly: none after the trial.

Request a yearly refund under Purchases > Purchase History > Request refund; the membership is cancelled, any certificate earned in those 14 days is lost unless you pay the course fee, and the money can take up to 7–10 business days to arrive. Coursera's help center says monthly subscriptions can't be refunded once the free trial ends, and its terms rule out refunds on yearly renewal charges.[3, 4, 13]

Single courses and Specializations

Refundable within 7 days, but only before you earn a certificate.

A one-time course payment buys 180 days of access and can be refunded in full within 7 days of payment (or of launch, if you pre-enrolled), as long as you haven't earned its Course Certificate; a Specialization bought outright has the same 7 days, and stops being refundable once you earn a certificate for any course in it. Coursera's terms also give Specializations enrolled through a subscription a 7-day window before any certificate. Guided Projects are never refunded, and there are no partial refunds.[3, 8, 13]

Free trials

Charged for the first month the moment the trial ends.

A 7-day trial bills after 7 days and a 1-day trial after 24 hours, unless you cancel first. Certificates can't be earned during the trial: a course you finish in that time gets its certificate after the first monthly payment, and a Specialization's Capstone stays locked until the trial is over.[6, 13]

Subscriptions that end themselves

Specializations stop billing when finished; Coursera Plus doesn't.

Specialization and Professional Certificate subscriptions are charged monthly and end automatically once you earn the certificate for the whole program. If you only want one course from a Specialization, you can cancel after earning that course's certificate. Coursera Plus keeps renewing until you cancel it.[5, 17]

App purchases

Apple and Google bill, cancel and refund them.

Anything bought in the Coursera mobile app goes through Apple or Google Play Billing, so it's cancelled in those stores and their refund policies apply — Coursera can't process the refund. Coursera also notes that course prices may differ in the app, and anything bought on Coursera.org in a browser still works in the app.[3, 5, 8]

5 catches in the fine print

Watch out for

Where shoppers lose the saving they thought they had.

  1. Coursera Plus doesn't cancel your other subscriptions

Specialization subscriptions you already pay for keep running after you start Coursera Plus, so you'd be billed for both. Cancel the old ones yourself; your course progress is kept.[1, 2]

  2. A free trial cancels a pending financial aid application

Starting a trial for a subscription that includes the course you applied for cancels your financial aid application. If you've already started one, cancel it and apply again once the trial period has ended.[11, 12]

  3. A yearly refund takes back your certificates

Refunding a yearly Coursera Plus plan within its 14 days removes access to any Course Certificate you completed in that time, and your courses drop to Preview mode. To keep a certificate, you'd have to pay that course's fee.[3, 4]

  4. Yearly renewals can't be refunded

Coursera Plus subscriptions renew for the same length of time unless you cancel, and Coursera's terms say renewal charges on yearly plans aren't refunded. Your next charge date is shown in Purchases, so cancel before it if you're done.[7, 13]

  5. Opening paid content can cost you a refund

Coursera's terms say refunds aren't available once you've accessed or unlocked premium content from a purchase, and Coursera may also refuse refunds after heavy use, repeated requests or chargebacks. Use the free preview to judge a course before paying.[3, 13]

Coursera savings FAQ

Coursera's terms say it occasionally runs special discounts or promotional offers, with eligibility at its discretion and the limits stated when the offer is shown. On October 17, 2026, its Google Career Certificates page offered 3 free months of Google's paid Gemini plan on Google One for enrolling in a Google certificate, redeemable until December 31, 2026. Its referral program, which gave a first month of Coursera Plus for $1, was discontinued on October 25, 2024.[13, 15, 16]

The standing one is yearly billing: the US page captured October 9, 2026 showed $399 a year against $59 a month and labelled the yearly option Save 40%. Coursera says monthly prices may vary with promotions, and it claims someone taking more than one course regularly could save up to 30% a month with Coursera Plus — the top of its range.[1, 2]

Yes, in part. Most courses offer a Preview of the first module, select courses offer Full Course, No Certificate, and Coursera's help center counts over 2,800 free courses, which may not include certificates. To earn a certificate you pay, or apply for financial aid.[9, 10, 12]

Monthly Coursera Plus starts with a 7-day free trial; you're charged for the first month when it ends unless you cancel. The yearly plan has no trial but comes with a 14-day money-back guarantee. Trials have to be started in a web browser, not the app.[2, 6]

On a course that offers it, click Learn more next to Financial aid available, write an application of at least 150 words about your background, goals and finances, and wait up to 16 days. If approved you get a discount on that course and 180 days to finish it; Specializations need a separate application for each course.[11, 12]

Coursera's help center doesn't list a general student discount. Students whose school joined Coursera for Campus Basic get free unlimited access to the Guided Projects in that plan, notified through their school email; the separate Campus Student Plan ended on November 2, 2022. Otherwise, financial aid is open to anyone who can't afford a course.[11, 14]

Single courses and Specializations bought outright can be refunded within 7 days of payment if you haven't earned a certificate, and yearly Coursera Plus within 14 days. Monthly subscriptions aren't refunded once the free trial ends, Guided Projects are never refunded, and app purchases follow Apple's or Google's policies.[3, 13]

Log in on Coursera.org, go to Purchases, find Coursera Plus under the Subscriptions tab and click Cancel subscription. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for; subscriptions started in the app are cancelled through Apple or Google Play.[5]

Coursera's help center lists free catalog access for residents of California, Louisiana, Missouri, Nevada, New York and Tennessee. California's runs through the State Library and needs a library card; the others are run by state workforce or labor agencies you register with first, and separate terms may apply.[12]
