American Airlines Promo Codes & Discount Codes
American's savings sit in fare and bag rules rather than codes: the first two domestic bags cost $5 less each online, an AAdvantage number on the booking turns a 6-month Trip Credit into 12, and the fee table lists $0 to change Main Cabin trips from the Americas.
Does American Airlines have promo codes?
American's FAQ refers to aa.com promotion codes and says trips booked with one are instant purchase only. On October 17, 2026 the aa.com booking form had no general promo code box, and the Round Trip Deals page showed fares rather than codes. Those fares were collected within the previous 24 hours.[6, 14]

Our verdict
Join AAdvantage for free and put your number on every booking: cancel a non-refundable trip on aa.com and the Trip Credit lasts 12 months instead of 6, and the number is how cardmember and status bag allowances get applied. Pay for checked bags online, where the first two cost $45 and $55 on a domestic Main Cabin ticket, $5 less each than at the airport. If your dates might move, skip Basic Economy: on trips from the U.S. it can't be changed after 24 hours, and only AAdvantage members can cancel it for credit, minus a fee that starts at $99.

Pay for checked bags on aa.com, not at the counter
On Main Cabin tickets issued since May 18, 2026, a first checked bag costs $45 online or $50 at the airport and a second $55 online or $60 at the airport, per person and each way. The discount covers travel within and between the U.S. (including Hawaii and Alaska), Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean (except Cuba and Haiti), Central America (except Panama) and Guyana. Basic Economy tickets pay $5 more for each of those bags, online or not.[1, 5]
- Check in on aa.com or in the American app, up to 2 hours before departure.
- Say how many bags you'll check, up to 3 per person.
- Pay there; bags can't be paid for over the phone.
Join AAdvantage and add your number before you cancel
AAdvantage costs nothing to join. Cancel a non-refundable ticket on aa.com or in the app before departure and you get a Trip Credit: for credits issued since April 2, 2024, members with their number in the reservation get 12 months to use it, non-members 6. The holder can spend a Trip Credit on travel for anyone. Cancel through any other channel and you get a Flight Credit instead, usable only by the passenger named on it and valid for 1 year from the original ticket's issue date.[4, 5, 12, 13]
- Join AAdvantage on aa.com.
- Open the trip and add your number under Passenger information.
- Cancel on aa.com or in the app before the first flight leaves.
Price Main Cabin against Basic Economy before you pay
Basic Economy is American's lowest Main Cabin fare, but after the first 24 hours it can't be changed (trips starting in most of Europe can be, for a fee), and only AAdvantage members who booked in the U.S. directly with American can cancel it for a Trip Credit, minus $99 within the 48 contiguous states and $129 or $199 on other routes. American's fee table lists a $0 change fee before the day of travel on Main Cabin tickets for trips that begin in North or South America; any fare difference still applies. Basic Economy tickets bought since December 17, 2025 also earn no miles.[1, 3, 10]
Let an AAdvantage card or status cover your first bag
Eligible AAdvantage credit cardmembers check their first bag free on domestic itineraries operated by American, as long as their AAdvantage number is in the reservation. American's Basic Economy page names the eligible cards as the Citi / AAdvantage Executive, Platinum Select, Business and Globe Mastercards. Status adds more: Gold gets the first bag free, Platinum the first two, and Executive Platinum and Platinum Pro the first three. Primary cardmembers' miles also don't expire while the card account is open.[2, 3, 5, 11]
Book award trips with miles, which carry no change fees
On flights American markets, base members earn 5 miles per dollar of fare and carrier fees, and status adds 40% to 120% more. Award tickets have no change fees, though you may pay a difference, and if you cancel on aa.com before your first flight departs American returns the miles and refunds eligible taxes at no charge, up to 1 year from purchase. Cash and miles bookings are open to members with a U.S. address and at least 500 miles, on American-operated flights within the contiguous 48 states.[9, 10]

American Airlines discount codes
Codes and offers kept by David Jones, who lists only codes the store makes public.
American's FAQ says trips booked with an aa.com promotion code are instant purchase only, and its fare-deal pages list prices rather than codes. We list only codes American publishes itself on aa.com; none was shown on October 17, 2026.
No public code we could confirm right now
We would rather show nothing than a code that fails at checkout. The ways to save above work without one.

The rules that decide what you pay
What American Airlines says about 24-hour cancellation, refunds for disruptions, changes, travel credits, checked bags and promotion codes — the details that turn a good deal into a bad one, or the other way round.
24-hour cancellation
A refund within 24 hours if you booked at least 7 days before departure.
The 24-hour refund applies to all ticket types, but you have to cancel the trip. Money goes back to the original form of payment, minus sale-imposed non-refundable taxes and any service charge for booking through Reservations. Group block bookings don't qualify, and for a ticket bought through a travel agency or another booking source, you ask that seller for the refund.[5]
Refunds for disruptions
Turn down the rebooking after a big change and you get your money back.
American refunds the fare, taxes and fees if it cancels your flight or changes it significantly and you choose not to rebook: a shift of 3 hours or more on domestic trips or 4 hours or more internationally, a different airport, a lower cabin or an extra connection. A change of 90 minutes or more within 72 hours of departure can also qualify a non-refundable ticket for a refund if you decide not to travel. Accept the rebooking and the refund is off; take travel credit instead and it lasts 5 years from the disruption.[5]
Changes
$0 change fee on Main Cabin from the Americas; Basic Economy can't change.
The fee table lists $0 for a voluntary change before the day of travel on Main Cabin and premium tickets for trips beginning in North or South America, and up to $400 elsewhere, plus any fare difference. Changed travel must be completed within 1 year of the original ticket date. Same-day flight changes in Main Cabin start at $60, while standing by for an earlier flight on the same day is free for all customers.[1, 6]
Travel credits
Cancel online for a Trip Credit; other channels give a Flight Credit.
A Trip Credit is valid until 11:59 p.m. Central time on the date printed on it, can book travel for anyone, and can't pay for seats. A Flight Credit belongs to the named passenger and is valid for 1 year from the original ticket's issue date. Either way, the ticket has to be cancelled before the first flight departs, or it loses its remaining value.[4, 5]
Checked bags
$50 for the first bag and $60 for the second at the airport on domestic routes.
Fees apply per person, each way; paying online takes $5 off each of the first two on eligible routes, and Basic Economy adds $5. A third bag within the U.S. and Canada costs $200. Bag fees paid at the airport aren't refundable, and the Main Plus fare includes one extra free checked bag on top of the Main Cabin allowance.[1, 2]
Promotion codes
Trips booked with an aa.com promotion code are instant purchase only.
American's FAQ says a trip with an aa.com promotion code can't be put on hold, so the free 24-hour hold (offered in select markets on bookings made 7 days or more before departure) isn't available with one. AAdvantage award tickets can't be combined with any other promotion, coupon or discount unless American allows it.[6, 8]
5 catches in the fine print
Watch out for
Where shoppers lose the saving they thought they had.
A missed first flight erases the ticket
A ticket has to be cancelled before its first flight departs to keep any value; if you don't show up, it is no longer valid or eligible for credit. On Basic Economy, cancelling a trip that has already begun forfeits whatever value is left.[4, 5]
Some fees never come back
If you cancel, bag or seat fees paid at the airport aren't refunded, and voluntary changes to paid seats aren't refunded either. Bags paid for online aren't refunded if you end up checking fewer.[5, 6]
The Basic Economy fee can swallow the credit
When the cancellation fee is more than the ticket price, no travel credit is issued at all. The credit also requires the AAdvantage number to be in the booking before you cancel, and cancelling on aa.com or in the app.[1, 3]
Miles expire after 24 quiet months
With no earning or redeeming for 24 months, all miles in the account expire, unless you're under 21 or a primary AAdvantage cardmember whose card account is open. Bringing them back costs a fee of $60 to $2,000.[8, 11]
Free bags stop at partner-operated flights
The cardmember bag benefit covers domestic itineraries operated by American. On codeshare flights run by partner airlines, military free bags don't apply, and American says status free bags may not either.[2, 7]
