1Password Promo Codes, Discounts & Free Trial

1Password's lower prices come from how and where you subscribe: a 14-day trial with no card, a first-year rate for new yearly subscribers on 1password.com, Families for five, free Families through an employer's Business account, and free years for students.

Does 1Password have promo codes?

We found no public promo code on 1password.com on October 17, 2026. The current new-customer offer is shown as a price on the pricing page instead: Individual at $2.99 and Families at $4.49 a month for the first year of annual billing. The code field at 1password.com/promo is for company tokens that organizations such as universities give their members.[1, 13]

Our verdict

Start with the 14-day free trial, then subscribe yearly on 1password.com rather than through an app store: on October 17, 2026 the US pricing page offered new customers $2.99 a month for Individual or $4.49 for Families, which covers five people, for their first year, against $3.99 and $5.99 at the regular yearly rate. Before paying at all, check whether your employer's 1Password Business account gives you Families for free, or whether you qualify for two free years as a GitHub-verified student.

Ways to save at 1Password

Ordered by what each is typically worth to a regular shopper — the biggest saving first.

  1. Try it free for 14 days first

14 days at no costLow effortAnyone new to 1Password

1Password lets you try Individual or Families free for 14 days, and its pricing page says no credit card is required. If you cancel during the trial you aren't charged; if you keep going, the first invoice arrives within 48 hours after the trial ends. On a Families trial you can add and remove as many people as you like, and the first bill counts only the members active at the end.[1, 4, 5]

  2. Subscribe yearly, directly on 1password.com

Individual at $2.99 a month in year oneLow effortNew customers ready to commit for a year

On October 17, 2026 the US pricing page listed Individual at $2.99 a month and Families at $4.49 a month, billed yearly, against regular rates of $3.99 and $5.99, and labeled yearly billing "Save up to 40%"; billed monthly, the same plans were $4.99 and $7.99 a month. The promotional price is for new customers subscribing directly through 1Password.com, for the first year with annual billing; it isn't offered through Google Play, the Apple App Store or other third-party app stores. The page showed no end date for it.[1]

    1. Open the personal pricing page on 1password.com and choose Yearly.
    2. Start from Try FREE for 14 days on the plan you want.
    3. Keep the subscription on 1password.com instead of buying in the app.
  3. Share one Families plan instead of paying for several Individual plans

5 people for $5.99 a month billed yearlyLow effortHouseholds or friends who each need a password manager

Families includes five members (plus five guests) for $5.99 a month billed yearly at the regular rate shown on October 17, 2026, while Individual covers one person for $3.99 a month. Each member keeps their own items private and shares only what goes into shared vaults. An existing Individual subscriber can move up under Billing with Switch plan; a sixth member is charged a prorated amount once they accept the invitation.[1, 5, 20]

  4. Claim free Families through your employer's 1Password Business account

1Password Families at no costLow effortPeople whose workplace uses 1Password Business

1Password's Business plan includes a free Families plan for every user for personal use; the Teams Starter Pack doesn't. You redeem it from Manage Account in your work account, on a new family account or an existing one, and if you already pay, 1Password credits the remaining subscription time to the family account for later. The membership stays free while it's linked to the business account, and only its subscription status is shared with your employer.[2, 9]

    1. Sign in to your business account on 1Password.com and open Manage Account.
    2. Under Claim your free family account, select Redeem Now.
    3. Sign up with a personal email, or apply it to your existing account.
  5. Students: take the GitHub pack or the Student Beans offer

Up to two years freeSome effortPost-secondary students and recent graduates

1Password gives two free years of an Individual account to post-secondary students verified through the GitHub Student Developer Pack; it can be redeemed once, and anyone already paying gets a prorated credit for the remaining time. Student Beans, which 1password.com links to under For Students, listed a 1 Year Free Subscription at 1Password for students and for graduates on October 17, 2026; you claim it by creating a free Student Beans account and verifying your status. If your university hands out a 1Password coupon, you redeem it as a company token at 1password.com/promo.[11, 12, 13]

  6. Journalists, nonprofits and open-source teams: apply for free or discounted accounts

Free accounts or creditsHigh effortWorking journalists, nonprofit organizations, open-source projects

Journalists can apply through 1Password's journalist page to have their individual account made free once they provide qualifying information. Nonprofits may get a one-time credit, discounted accounts or similar support, depending on their account type and situation. Open-source projects can apply for a free Teams account that doesn't expire while the project stays eligible: it must be at least 30 days old, active, under a permissive license and not supported by commercial activity.[14, 15, 16, 21]

1Password promo codes

Codes and offers kept by David Jones, who lists only codes the store makes public.

1Password shows its new-customer offer as a price on its own pricing page, and organization coupons are company tokens redeemed at 1password.com/promo by the people they're issued to. We list a code only when 1Password publishes one on 1password.com; we found none on October 17, 2026.

6 rules · 1password.com, United States

The rules that decide what you pay

What 1Password says about cancellation, refunds, frozen accounts, free trial, billing frequency and prices and app store subscriptions — the details that turn a good deal into a bad one, or the other way round.

Cancellation

Cancel any time; the plan runs to the end of the period you paid for.

On 1Password.com, open Billing in the sidebar and select Cancel subscription; the account stays active until the current billing period ends and is then frozen. Subscriptions are billed in advance and renew automatically until cancelled, and the terms say charges continue until you cancel by signing in or contacting 1Password. Subscriptions bought in the app are cancelled with Apple or Google.[3, 6, 17, 18]

Refunds

No refunds for past charges or time left on the plan.

1Password's refund policy says it can't refund past charges or any time remaining when you cancel. Its Terms of Service call all payments non-refundable but allow refund requests to be considered case by case, at 1Password's sole discretion. Gift card purchases are final, and unused account credit isn't refunded.[3, 4, 5]

Frozen accounts

A lapsed plan turns your account read-only.

While frozen, you can view your items, copy passwords and copy items to vaults outside the account, but you can't add or edit items, invite people or fill logins in your browser. Your data and any credit stay in the account as long as you don't delete it, and choosing Subscribe under Billing unfreezes it.[5, 7]

Free trial

Cancel before the trial ends and nothing is charged.

The terms say that if you gave billing details at sign-up, you won't be charged until the trial expires and will be charged on its last day unless you've cancelled. 1Password's billing article puts the first invoice within 48 hours after the trial ends; Families and Business trials bill for the people active in the account, counted daily at 7:00 PM ET.[3, 5]

Billing frequency and prices

Switching between monthly and yearly moves you to today's price.

You can change frequency under Billing Settings at any time, but the subscription then takes the current rate on the pricing page, and an older pricing plan can't be kept. Under the terms, 1Password may change its fees with reasonable notice, and a change takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle.[3, 6]

App store subscriptions

Apple or Google bill you, and 1Password.com can't manage the plan.

In-app subscriptions are managed in your Apple or Google account, and you can't change your account type after starting one. On Android, switching between monthly and annual billing means cancelling and starting a new subscription once the period ends. 1Password's promotional pricing isn't available through app stores.[1, 17, 18]

5 catches in the fine print

Watch out for

Where shoppers lose the saving they thought they had.

  1. The promotional rate covers the first year only

The $2.99 and $4.49 per-month prices shown on October 17, 2026 apply to a new customer's first year with annual billing. The same page lists $3.99 for Individual and $5.99 for Families as the regular prices, so budget for those from year two.[1]

  2. A sixth family member costs extra

Families includes five members and five guests. Each additional member who accepts an invitation is billed a prorated amount for the rest of the billing period, within 48 hours of joining.[5]

  3. Sales tax and bank fees come on top

Prices on 1Password.com don't include sales tax; where US sales tax applies, the rate depends on your ZIP code and appears on your Billing page. 1Password is based in Canada, so some banks and card issuers may add a foreign transaction fee even for US-region accounts.[6, 19]

  4. Leaving your job ends the free Families plan

A Families membership claimed through 1Password Business stays free only while it's linked. When you leave or are removed, it reverts to a 14-day complimentary trial and then freezes unless you add a payment method.[9, 10]

  5. Deleting is not the same as cancelling

Deleting your account stops you from signing in and permanently removes your data after 30 days; deleting a family account erases it for every member. Cancelling only freezes the account, so your items stay available to view and export.[5, 8]
