Does eBay have coupon codes?

Yes — eBay publishes its own coupon codes on its Deals page, often for one category or a set of sellers, for a limited time. Each has its own cap, eligible items and end date, and only one coupon works per purchase.[6, 7, 8]

Our verdict

Check eBay's Deals page for its own coupon codes before you pay, use Best Offer on listings that allow it, and look at eBay Refurbished — up to 50% off with a one- or two-year warranty — before buying new. Found the same item cheaper at Amazon, Walmart or Target within 48 hours? eBay's Best Price Guarantee pays 110% of the difference.

Ways to save at eBay

Ordered by what each is typically worth to a regular shopper — the biggest saving first.

  1. Use the coupon codes eBay posts on its Deals page

A percentage off eligible itemsLow effortAnyone buying in a promoted category

eBay runs its own coupon codes and advertises them on its Deals page, often for one category or a group of sellers, and for a limited time. Each comes with its own terms: a maximum discount, a limit on how many times you can use it, and the same standard exclusions — gift cards, coins and paper money, vehicles and real estate.[6, 7, 8]

    1. Check ebay.com/deals for coupon banners before you check out.
    2. Make sure your items are in the coupon's category or from its sellers.
    3. Enter the code at checkout and confirm the discount before you pay — it applies to the item price, not shipping or tax.
  2. Make a Best Offer instead of paying the listed price

Whatever the seller acceptsSome effortListings that show a Make Offer button

On listings that allow it you can make up to 3 offers (5 in most vehicle categories); sellers have 24 hours to accept, decline or counter, and a counteroffer stays open for 96 hours. An accepted offer doesn't hold the item for you — it's yours only once you pay, unless you've turned on autopay, which secures it as soon as the seller accepts.[4]

  3. Buy eBay Refurbished instead of new

Up to 50% off, with a warrantyLow effortPhones, laptops, appliances, tools

eBay Refurbished items are graded Certified, Excellent, Very Good or Good. Certified items come with a two-year warranty and the others with one year, serviced by Allstate, and you can return them free within 30 days, subject to some exceptions. eBay advertises savings of up to 50% — that's the top of the range, not the usual discount.[5]

  4. Claim the Best Price Guarantee if you find it cheaper

110% of the difference, as a couponSome effortNew items on the Deals page or with the guarantee logo

If you buy an eligible item — new, manufacturer-refurbished or unopened, shown on the eBay Deals page or carrying the Best Price Guarantee logo — and find the identical in-stock item for less at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Home Depot, Target, Sears, Wayfair or Jet within 48 hours, eBay pays 110% of the difference as a coupon for a future purchase. Shipping costs don't count in the comparison.[1]

    1. Compare the price on the approved retailers right after you buy.
    2. Contact eBay customer service within 48 hours with the item and where you found it cheaper.
    3. Use the coupon eBay sends on your next purchase.

5 rules · ebay.com, United States

The rules that decide what you pay

What eBay says about delivery problems, returns, Money Back Guarantee, coupons and Best Offer — the details that turn a good deal into a bad one, or the other way round.

Delivery problems

Report a missing item within 30 days of the estimated delivery date.

Open a request from your purchase history once the estimated delivery date has passed. If the seller doesn't respond or fix it within 3 business days, you can ask eBay to step in — up to 21 business days after you reported it.[2, 3]

Returns

Each seller sets its own returns policy — check the listing.

Who pays return shipping depends on why you're returning the item. Even when a seller doesn't accept returns, eBay's Money Back Guarantee covers items that arrive faulty, damaged or not as described: request a return within 30 days of delivery, or within the seller's return window if that's longer.[2, 3]

Money Back Guarantee

Covers most purchases paid for on eBay.

It covers items that don't arrive, don't match the listing, or where the seller doesn't honour its returns policy. Any payment made outside eBay — bank transfer, cash, money order — isn't covered. Vehicles, real estate, services, digital content, classified ads and travel tickets are excluded.[2]

Coupons

One coupon per purchase, on the item price only.

eBay coupons can't be combined with other coupons, don't apply to shipping, handling or tax, and can't be used with PayPal Credit Easy Payments, escrow or gift cards. Each has a cap and an end date, and if you return an item bought with a coupon, the discount may be deducted from your refund.[7, 8]

Best Offer

Up to 3 offers per item; 24 hours for the seller to answer.

Declined, expired and retracted offers all count towards the limit. You can send up to 4 counteroffers, and the seller can change their mind at any point until you've paid.[4]

4 catches in the fine print

Watch out for

Where shoppers lose the saving they thought they had.

  1. An accepted offer isn't yours until you pay

After a seller accepts your Best Offer, the item stays available to other buyers until someone pays. Pay straight away — or turn on autopay — to secure it.[4]

  2. Paying outside eBay loses your protection

The Money Back Guarantee only covers purchases paid through eBay checkout. If a seller asks you to pay by bank transfer, cash or money order, you're on your own.[2]

  3. Coupon discounts can come off a refund

eBay's coupon terms let it deduct the coupon discount if you return an item, and a redemption used on a cancelled purchase can't be reused.[8]

  4. Change-of-mind returns depend on the seller

Only items that are faulty, damaged or not as described are covered regardless of the seller's policy. If you might change your mind, check the listing's returns policy first.[2, 3]

Add eligible items to your cart and enter the code at checkout in the coupons or vouchers field; check the discount appears before you pay. It applies to the item price, not shipping, handling or tax.[7, 8]

Through its Best Price Guarantee: on eligible new items bought from the Deals page or with the guarantee logo, eBay pays 110% of the difference as a coupon if you find the identical item cheaper at an approved retailer within 48 hours.[1]

eBay's buyer protection: if an item doesn't arrive, arrives faulty or damaged, or doesn't match the listing, you can get your money back. Request it within 30 days of the delivery date, and pay through eBay — payments made outside eBay aren't covered.[2]

It depends on the seller's returns policy, shown on the listing. Items that are faulty, damaged or not as described are covered by the Money Back Guarantee even if the seller doesn't accept returns.[2, 3]

On listings with Make Offer, you can make up to 3 offers. The seller has 24 hours to accept, decline or counter; the item is only yours once you've paid, unless autopay is on.[4]

It's a safer way to buy used: items are graded, come with a one-year Allstate warranty (two years for Certified) and can be returned free within 30 days, subject to some exceptions.[5]

No. eBay's coupon terms say a coupon can't be combined with other coupons, discounts or promotions.[7, 8]
