REI Promo Codes, Coupons & Member Savings

REI's savings run through its co-op: a one-time $30 membership brings free standard shipping on any order, 365-day returns and an annual reward REI calls typically 10% of eligible full-price buys. Outlet and sale gear costs less up front but earns no reward.

Does REI have promo codes?

REI promotes codes that any member can use on rei.com itself, in site banners, on product pages or on the homepage, and gathers active offers on its Coupons & Discounts page, which listed none on October 17, 2026. Many REI promotions apply automatically at checkout, and codes made for one membership are personal and can't be reissued.[8, 13]

Our verdict

Buy the $30 membership once and, through November 12, 2026, put it in the same order as $50+ of eligible gear to get a $30 bonus card back. As a member you pay nothing for standard shipping, whatever the order size, and have 365 days to return; on big buys, weigh an Outlet or sale markdown against the reward on full-price gear, which REI calls typically 10%, because discounted items earn none. If REI lowers its own price within 14 days, ask for the difference.

Ways to save at REI

Ordered by what each is typically worth to a regular shopper — the biggest saving first.

  1. Join the co-op before your big full-price orders

Free shipping, 365-day returns, annual rewardLow effortAnyone buying at REI

Membership costs $30 once and lasts for life, with no renewals. Members get free U.S. standard shipping on any order, 365 days to return most items instead of 90, and an annual Co-op Member Reward that REI says is typically 10% of eligible full-price purchases, though not guaranteed. Rewards can't be credited for anything bought before you became a member, so don't wait until after a large full-price order to join.[1, 3, 6]

    1. Add the $30 lifetime membership to your cart on rei.com or at checkout.
    2. Give your member number, name, phone or email whenever you buy, online or in a store.
    3. Watch for your reward notice by March of the following year.
  2. Join in the same order as a $50 purchase before November 12

A $30 bonus card for a later orderLow effortNew members only

Through November 12, 2026 (11:59pm PT), buying a new membership in the same transaction as $50 or more of eligible merchandise earns a $30 Member Bonus Card, one per new member. The $50 is counted before tax, after discounts and without the membership itself, and it can't come from Re/Supply used gear, gift cards, rentals, shop services, classes or backordered and preordered items. Online, the card is emailed once your items ship or are picked up; in stores the cashier hands it over while supplies last.[2]

    1. Put at least $50 of eligible gear in your cart, before tax and after discounts.
    2. Add the $30 membership to the same order.
    3. Spend the card in one later transaction before the date printed on it.
  3. Sign up for REI emails or texts for one discounted item

15% (email) or 20% (text) off one itemLow effortNew email or text subscribers

REI says it has no first-order coupon, but new email subscribers get 15% off one full-price REI Co-op brand item, valid 30 days, and new text subscribers get 20% off one, valid 14 days. Both codes exclude bicycles, REI Outlet, sale and clearance items, used gear and gift cards, can't be combined with other offers, and the discounted item earns no Co-op Member Reward.[10, 11, 13]

  4. Read the price ending before you count on a markdown

Outlet, sale and clearance pricesLow effortAnyone comparing prices

REI's offer terms identify its markdowns by the cents: prices ending in $.73 are REI Outlet, $._9 are sale and $.83 or $.93 are clearance. REI Outlet is online only and sells closeouts, overstocks, special buys and seconds under the same return policy as rei.com. Outlet, sale and clearance items earn no Co-op Member Reward and Outlet buys get no price adjustments, so set the markdown against the reward you'd earn at full price.[1, 9, 10, 13]

  5. Ask for a price adjustment if REI drops the price

The difference, within 14 daysSome effortAnyone who bought at REI

If an item you bought at REI goes on sale there within 14 days in the same product, color and size, REI will refund the difference. Request it on rei.com for online orders or at any REI store for store purchases; the refund goes back to your original payment and can take 2–3 weeks. REI Outlet buys and items excluded by a coupon's terms don't qualify, and REI doesn't match other companies' prices.[7, 13]

    1. Spot the lower REI price on the identical item, color and size.
    2. Open REI's Price Adjustment page, or take a store purchase to any REI store.
    3. Check your statement: REI doesn't email when the refund is made.
  6. Trade in gear you no longer use for an REI gift card

10%–40% of the original priceSome effortMembers with gear REI once sold

Members can bring gently used gear that REI has sold to any REI store, where staff grade its condition; eligible trade-ins earn an REI e-gift card worth 10%–40% of the item's original price. Look items up in the online trade-in catalog first: REI won't take anything more than six years old, electronics, safety gear, next-to-skin clothing, items missing care tags, or oversize gear such as boats and car racks.[12]

Online the card is emailed once your items ship or are picked up; in stores it's handed out while supplies last. 6 rules · rei.com, United States

The rules that decide what you pay

What REI says about shipping, returns, mail-in returns and refunds, Co-op Member Reward, coupons and order changes — the details that turn a good deal into a bad one, or the other way round.

Shipping

Free standard shipping for members; $100 minimum for everyone else.

Non-members pay $7.99 for standard shipping below a $100 pre-tax subtotal, counted after discounts; Faster shipping costs $19.99 and Fastest $24.99 whether or not you're a member. Oversize charges still apply to heavy or large items, and from October 1, 2026 to March 1, 2027 skis and snowboards are included in the $100 free-shipping offer. REI estimates standard delivery at 5–7 business days, and free in-store or curbside pickup is available at most locations.[4, 5, 13]

Returns

365 days for members, 90 days for everyone else.

The window runs from the purchase date and covers most items, e-bikes included, but outdoor electronics such as GPS devices, cameras and bike trainers get 90 days for everyone. Memberships, lift tickets, passes, gift cards and used gear bought in stores are final sale, and gear you've used must be cleaned before it goes back or it may be refused. An item with a manufacturing defect can be returned at any time.[6]

Mail-in returns and refunds

Free in stores; $7.99 off the refund by mail.

REI deducts $7.99 when you use its prepaid label, or $21.95 for packages over 32 lbs, and keeps your original shipping charges unless it made a mistake or the item proves defective. Online and phone orders are refunded to the original payment; store purchases sent back by mail are refunded by check, rewards portion included, which can take up to 3 weeks.[6]

Co-op Member Reward

Earned on eligible full-price purchases from January to December.

The reward is calculated on eligible purchases posted between January 1 and December 31, minus returns, and REI sends notices by March of the next year. The part of a purchase paid with rewards, plus Outlet, sale and discounted items, used gear, gift cards, shipping, rentals and shop services, doesn't count. Only the primary member can redeem it, and the reward that expires soonest is used first.[1, 3]

Coupons

One code per customer, used within its dates.

REI codes go in the Order summary at checkout in capital letters, work once per membership and per transaction, and can't be combined with other offers; an active membership is required unless the offer says otherwise. They work only between the promotion's start and end dates, with no price adjustment afterwards. Participating brands vary, and excluded products show a not-eligible message under the price.[13]

Order changes

Cancel within 20 minutes or not at all.

REI can't modify an order once it's placed; you can cancel only within 20 minutes, from your signed-in purchase history, and orders that include a membership, store-pickup items or only an e-gift card can't be canceled. Store pickup orders are held for about two weeks before REI cancels and refunds them.[5, 13]

5 catches in the fine print

Watch out for

Where shoppers lose the saving they thought they had.

  1. Returning full-price gear can cost you the reward

Once a year's reward has been calculated, REI may take it out of refunds on full-price items bought that year. Its own example: a $100 coat bought in December and returned in February refunds $90, with the $10 paid as reward instead.[3]

  2. Two reward years expire weeks apart

The 2024 Co-op Member Reward expires January 3, 2027 and the 2025 reward February 27, 2027, both at 11:59pm PT. Rewards are spent oldest-expiring first, so check your balance before the first date.[1, 3]

  3. Discounted gear earns nothing back

Outlet, sale, clearance and coupon-discounted items don't count toward the Co-op Member Reward, and neither do used gear, gift cards or the membership fee.[1, 10]

  4. The membership can't be returned or passed on

The $30 fee is non-refundable and final sale, the membership can't be transferred, and an order that includes it can't be canceled. To give someone a membership, REI suggests a gift card of at least $30 that they use to join.[1, 6, 13]

  5. Go by the date on the bonus card

On October 17, 2026 REI's membership and bonus-card pages said the $30 card is valid for 30 days after issue, while the homepage tile said 60 days; the terms tie redemption to the expiry date on the card itself. The card's value comes off your refund if you return items, and it's void if you return the items that earned it.[1, 2, 18]

REI savings FAQ

REI promotes codes that any member can use on rei.com itself, in site banners, on product pages or on the homepage, and gathers active offers on its Coupons & Discounts page, which listed none on October 17, 2026. Many REI promotions apply automatically at checkout, and codes made for one membership are personal and can't be reissued.[8, 13]

Yes. It costs $30 once and lasts for life, with no renewals or annual dues. It isn't refundable and can't be transferred to someone else.[1]

The Co-op Member Reward can be a patronage dividend, a promotional reward or both. It's based on eligible full-price purchases from January 1 to December 31 and issued by March of the next year; REI says 10% is typical but not guaranteed. The reward on 2025 purchases was issued March 1, 2026 and expires February 27, 2027.[1, 3]

Members get free U.S. standard shipping on any order; everyone else gets it on orders of $100 or more before tax and pays $7.99 below that. Oversize charges still apply, and in-store or curbside pickup is free.[4, 13]

Members have 365 days from purchase and non-members 90 days for most items; outdoor electronics are 90 days for everyone. Returns are free in REI stores, while $7.99 comes off refunds sent back with REI's prepaid label.[6]

No, REI doesn't match other companies' prices. It will adjust the price if REI itself lowers it on the same item, color and size within 14 days of your purchase, except on REI Outlet items.[7, 13]

REI says it doesn't offer individual discounts for military or healthcare workers. Organizations paying with military or government funds may get a fixed discount through REI Corporate & Group Sales.[13]

REI's help center says the Anniversary Sale, its biggest of the year, is held every May, and on October 17, 2026 its sale page said the next one returns in May 2027. Before then, REI's sale pages point to a Cyber Week Sale in November 2026 and a Last-Minute Gifts Sale in December 2026.[13, 14, 15, 16]

Yes, on set combinations: 10% off three or more pairs of full-price socks, 10% off a full-price REI Co-op brand tent, sleeping bag and sleeping pad bought together, and 15% off full-price paddles and PFDs bought with a kayak, paddleboard or packraft, among others listed on REI's coupons page.[8]
